Terms and privacy
By using Lore, you agree to the Terms and acknowledge the Privacy Policy.
Terms of ServiceJune 1, 2026
1. Binding agreement
These Terms of Service are a binding agreement between you and Lore, referred to as Lore, we, us, or our. By accessing Lore, creating an account, joining a challenge, submitting proof, voting, making a payment, or otherwise using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use Lore.
Lore is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the University of California, Berkeley. Legal and privacy notices must be sent by email unless we later designate a formal registered agent or physical notice address.
2. The service
Lore is a private friend-group challenge and social game service. The service may allow users to create challenges, invite participants, track Aura, submit proof, comment, react, vote, and view challenge records.
Lore is not a gambling, betting, wagering, sweepstakes, lottery, casino, escrow, custody, money transmission, banking, investment, or prize service. Lore does not offer financial accounts, stored value accounts, cash balances, or cash-out rights.
3. Eligibility
You may not use Lore if you are under 13 years old. If you are under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you may use Lore only with permission from a parent or legal guardian.
You may not use Lore if applicable law, sanctions rules, platform rules, or these Terms prohibit you from doing so.
4. Accounts and security
You are responsible for your account, your login credentials, and all activity under your account. You must provide accurate account information and keep it current. You may not share, sell, rent, or transfer your account without our written consent.
We may use third-party identity providers, including Clerk, to authenticate users. We may suspend or terminate accounts that appear compromised, abusive, fraudulent, unlawful, or inconsistent with these Terms.
5. Challenges, Aura, and outcomes
Challenges are created by users. Challenge rules, proof, votes, comments, reactions, and outcomes are user-generated social content. You are solely responsible for deciding whether to join a challenge and for complying with any promise you make to other users.
Aura is a fictional in-app status score. Aura may be earned, reduced, adjusted, or revoked inside Lore according to challenge mechanics, moderation decisions, system rules, or error correction. Aura has no cash value, is not property, is not currency, is not redeemable, is not transferable outside Lore, and does not create any entitlement to money, prizes, cash payouts, refunds, or consideration.
Challenge voting and results are for entertainment, accountability, and social recordkeeping only. Results may be subjective, inaccurate, unfair, disputed, delayed, or unavailable. Lore is not responsible for user votes, user decisions, social consequences, reputational harm, or disputes between participants.
6. Payments and refunds
Payment features may be unavailable, experimental, capped, or disabled. Payments, if enabled, are processed by Stripe or another third-party payment processor. We do not store complete payment card numbers.
Lore challenges currently use free Aura entry. Aura is not a bet, wager, gambling stake, escrow deposit, cash pool, financial account balance, or promise of a cash payout.
Lore does not currently support cash prizes, cash-outs, user-to-user cash transfers, or winner payouts. Do not join a challenge if you expect money, property, or any thing of value to be awarded based on the outcome.
If Lore later offers paid features, any payments will be service fees or access charges, not outcome-based prizes or wagers.
7. User content
You retain any rights you have in content you submit to Lore. You grant Lore a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, display, adapt, moderate, transmit, and otherwise use your content as needed to operate, secure, improve, and provide the service.
You represent that you have all rights and permissions needed to submit your content, including proof media, screenshots, names, likenesses, messages, captions, and comments. You are responsible for obtaining consent before uploading content that includes another person, private conversation, location, username, image, voice, or other identifying information.
Lore is not confidential storage. Content may be visible to challenge participants, group members, invite recipients, moderators, service providers, and other people described in the Privacy Policy. Other users may copy, save, screenshot, share, or misuse your content, and Lore is not responsible for user misuse.
8. Prohibited conduct
- Do not create or join challenges that are illegal, dangerous, exploitative, sexually explicit, harassing, hateful, violent, self-harm related, doxxing related, or designed to humiliate, threaten, stalk, blackmail, or coerce another person.
- Do not upload proof involving nudity, sexual content, minors in unsafe contexts, nonconsensual intimate content, private credentials, medical records, financial records, government IDs, home addresses, phone numbers, or other highly sensitive information. Uploading third-party private information is prohibited unless Lore expressly requests it for a specific support, safety, or legal process.
- Do not impersonate others, create fake accounts, manipulate votes, evade payment, reverse engineer the service, scrape data, bypass access controls, probe security, spam, upload malware, or interfere with Lore's systems or third-party systems.
- Do not use Lore to violate law, payment processor rules, platform policies, intellectual property rights, privacy rights, publicity rights, or contractual duties owed to others.
9. Moderation and enforcement
We may, but are not required to, review, remove, restrict, label, preserve, disclose, or refuse content. We may suspend or terminate accounts, disable challenges, reverse in-app entries, block payments, or take other action if we believe it is necessary to operate Lore, protect users, reduce risk, enforce these Terms, or comply with law.
We do not promise to monitor all content or resolve all disputes. Failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver.
10. Third-party services
Lore may rely on third-party services for authentication, hosting, storage, payments, infrastructure, analytics, communications, and security, including Clerk, Supabase, Stripe, and Vercel. Your use of those services may be subject to their terms and privacy policies. Lore is not responsible for third-party acts, omissions, outages, or terms.
11. Disclaimers
Lore is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, quiet enjoyment, availability, accuracy, and security.
Lore does not provide legal, financial, medical, fitness, safety, tax, gambling, payment, or professional advice. You are responsible for your choices, physical safety, legal compliance, relationships, and financial decisions.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Lore and its officers, directors, employees, contractors, affiliates, service providers, and agents will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, punitive, or enhanced damages, lost profits, lost data, reputational harm, emotional distress, personal injury, property damage, user disputes, lost Aura, lost content, or service interruption.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Lore's total liability for all claims relating to the service or these Terms will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid Lore for the service during the three months before the event giving rise to the claim or one hundred U.S. dollars.
13. Indemnity
You will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Lore and its officers, directors, employees, contractors, affiliates, service providers, and agents from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, losses, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising from or related to your content, your challenges, your conduct, your account, your violation of these Terms, your violation of law, or your violation of another person's rights.
14. Dispute resolution
Before filing a formal claim, you agree to email us at the address below and try to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days. If the dispute is not resolved, you and Lore agree to resolve disputes through binding individual arbitration administered by JAMS under its Streamlined Arbitration Rules and Procedures, except for claims that may be brought in small claims court and claims seeking injunctive relief for intellectual property misuse or unauthorized system access.
Arbitration will be conducted on an individual basis only. Class actions, class arbitrations, representative actions, private attorney general actions, mass arbitrations, and consolidated proceedings are not permitted to the fullest extent permitted by law. The arbitrator may award relief only to the individual party seeking relief and only to the extent necessary to resolve that party's individual claim.
Unless JAMS rules or applicable law require otherwise, each party will pay its own attorneys' fees and costs, and arbitration fees will be allocated under the applicable JAMS consumer rules. You may opt out of arbitration by emailing us within 30 days after you first accept these Terms and stating your name, account email, and intent to opt out. If any part of this arbitration section is unenforceable, the unenforceable part will be severed and the rest will remain in effect to the fullest extent permitted by law.
These Terms are governed by California law, excluding conflict of law rules. If a court action is permitted, the exclusive venue will be the state or federal courts located in Alameda County, California, unless applicable law requires another venue.
15. Changes and termination
We may update these Terms by posting a revised version in the service. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of Lore at any time. You may stop using Lore at any time, but these Terms will continue to apply to prior use and any provisions that by their nature should survive.

We may need to verify your request and may decline or limit a request where retaining information is necessary for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute resolution, payment records, or another lawful reason.
Deleting content may not remove copies already viewed, saved, cached, screenshotted, exported, backed up, or shared by other users or service providers.
